Begin Your Homesearch with Alicia Novak
THIS SAVANNAH NATIVE has made a big splash in the world of real estate in a small amount of time. A few months ago, Alicia Novak struck out on her own and opened Elite Coastal Properties.

Alberta Scott, a broker, and Novak teamed up to form Elite Coastal Properties in September. The new company has already grown to 12 agents. They will be adding another office building in the near future.

After doing some research, Novak decided starting a business of her own was a logical choice. Although her company lacks a nationally-known name, Novak is able to put her own signature on the business. "Why not do your own thing?" Novak asked.

Novak has been in the real estate business for almost three years. She was always interested in the real estate market, but for ten years, made her living in commercial building supply sales.
After selling a house of her own, she decided to make the career switch. "Once I got into it, I think I finally found my niche", Novak said.

An important aspect of Novak's business is building relationships. According to Novak, it is important to develop a relationship with a client, and not focus on a quick sale. Novak credits this attention to relationships for the amount of referral business she now handles.

"I'm on a 90% referral basis right now, that's where you want to be," Novak said. In many cases, Novak relates that clients apologize for "dragging" her around to look at a large number of houses. She simply replies, "It's my job and I love what I do."

Novak feels she benefits from any time spent looking at property with a client. She uses it as market research. It also helps her to make connections. A house may not be suited for one client, but may be exactly what a different client told her they were looking for.

A believer in the "get what you give" theory, Novak puts it into action. "Be a positive influence on people and it all comes back to you," she said. Story and pictures by Emily Goldman, ©Copywritten by Savannah Home Search.
